Within the Gaulish community, there is a strong need for a textbook which teaches reconstructed Gaulish. We have a few grammars available, such as Iextis Galation and Yixtis Keltica. Grammars are a wealth of knowledge and we should be indebted to those individuals for putting them together. However, it is very difficult to learn a language – especially an ancient language – from a grammar, even more so if the student has no prior experience with learning an ancient language. The approaches to learning a modern language and an ancient language are quite different. For these reasons, learning reconstructed Gaulish can be a daunting and frustrating endeavor.

Hence the need for these lessons. I am not a linguist nor a philologist, although I have an understanding of both studies in relation to I-E languages. I have, however, studied ancient languages (Greek and Latin), received an M.A. in Latin, and taught ancient languages before. Therefore, I will make no claim (nor is it the intention) that these lessons are an authoritative source and they are not meant to give a complete understanding of Gaulish. These lessons are intended to help the community learn the Gaulish language if they need help in doing so.

I have utilized the Iextis Galation grammar while compiling these lessons as well as the Uoxtlosernis Galatis and the Ueposlougos Nouiogalaticos dictionaries. I strongly recommend getting them if you do not already. They are shared freely on the internet. These can be downloaded below.
