
Herodotus – A Greek Historian born around 490BCE and died around 429BCE. Known as the Father of History.

Polybius – A greek Politician born around 204-200BCE and died around 122-118BCE. He writes much about war. He wrote about 40 books but only a few are intact. Parthenius of Nicea – A greek poet who died around 14CE, his only surviving work is the Erotica Pathemata. “The story we have is basically a Greek myth revolving around Hercules Gaul.”

Diodorus Siculus – A Roman Historian born around 80 BCE and died around 25BCE. He has been a great source as he recorded a lot of lost work from others. He writes much about the Gauls in his Historical Library. “He goes into the mythical origins of Gaul, Talks about the sack of Rome by the Gauls, Goes into Geography of Gaul, Also goes into detail about the Gauls, and much more.”

Dionysius of Halicarnassus – A Greek Historian born around 60 BCE and died around 10 CE. His main work was called Roman Antiguites. “Within this text, he talks about the Gaulish attack on Rome.”

Strabo – A Greek Historian and Geographer who was born around 60BCE and died around 24 CE. He wrote a book called Geography. He goes into a lot about the Gaulish People. “He talks about the different tribes, the Senodruieds, and mentions much about the society.”

Josephus – A Roman Priest, scholar, and soldier who was born 38CE and died 100 CE. He was a very religious advisor for the Roman army. Even though he was a commander of the Jewish forces rising up against Rome. His works are The Wars of the Jews, Against Apion, Antiquities of the Jews. “He describes the Gauls and talks about locations.”

Lucian of Samosata A Syrian Greek Rhetorician born around 120CE and died around 190 CE. His work include Dialogs of the Dead, Zeuxix and Antiochus, The way to write history, Heracles, an Introductory lecture. “He goes into Hannibal’s conquering, Talks about a battle he saw with Antiochus Soter who won a fight against a Galatian, and talks about how the celts worship Hercules which is called Ogmios.“

Cassius Dio Cocceianus – A Roman Politican born around 160CE and died around 235CE. His book Roman History is thought to have had around 80 books within but we only have around 25 with some fragments. “He goes into much about war, talks about how the celts wore torcs, goes in-depth about the different tribes, and much detail about the Gauls in general. Pausianas – Was a Greek Geographer born 110CE and died 180CE. His work is The Description of Greece within this work of his he talks about The Sack of Delphi by Brennus and Bolgius. “Here he talks about the Gauls invading Greece.”

Maximus of Tyre – A Greek Philosopher born around 150, we do not know much about him besides he traveled a lot and that 41 of his essays still remain. “Here he talks about the Celtic Zeus.”

Herodian of Syria – A Roman civil servant who was born around 170CE and died around 240CE. He wrote an 8-volume book titled History of the Empire from the Death of Marcus. “Here he talks about Belinus.”

Athenaeus of Naucratis – A Greek Author born around 200CE and Died around 230CE. His only work that has survived is titled Deipnosophistae (Banquet of the Philosophers), this book is a 15-volume collection mostly quoting other writers before him. “Here we have an in-depth talk about the Galatians, talks about food, Celtic Homosexuality, and women.”

Diogenes Laertius – Was a Greek Biographer, Philosopher who lived around the 3rd century CE. He is a great source for much of Greek Philosophy. His main body of work is the Lives and Opinions of Eminent Philosophers. “Here we have mention of the Senoruides and some of there teachings.”

Cicero – A Roman Politician, Philosopher, and Lawyer born 106BCE and Died 43BCE. He was exiled by Caesar when he refused to join in with Caesar’s conquest but shortly was allowed to return once Caesar became Emperor. He has many works such as On the Manilian Law, In Catilinam, Ad Herennium, De Divinatione, and many more. “He goes into the behavior of the Gauls, talks about a Druid friend, and Talks a lot about the war and other details about the Gauls.”

Julius Caesar – Was a Roman Emperor born in 100BCE and died in 44BCE. He had a great many encounters with the Gauls during his conquest. He seems to have used his accounts with the Gauls to fuel the war with them making them seem much more than they were. His work referencing the Gauls is the Gallic wars. “The is mostly about war and what he learned from the Gauls, talks about the many tribes, Druids, and the land itself.”

Livy – A Roman Historian born around 64BCE and died around 15CE. He wrote around 142 books with only 30 that still remain.
